The program has a very broad mandate to cross the Arts and Humanities
with Science and Engineering Schools.

The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications to join the
distinguished faculty
of its highly successful Arts and Technology (ATEC) program. A
partnership between
the School of Arts and Humanities, where the program is housed, and
the Erik Jonsson
School of Engineering and Computer Science, ATEC exemplifies the commitment
of UT Dallas to leadership in innovative, trans-disciplinary education
and research.
ATEC offers a comprehensive academic program that merges the humanities with the
sciences and fosters the convergence of advanced digital technology
with the creative
arts. Areas of study include but are not limited to:
• Animation and Visualization Science
• Interactive narrative and game design
• Virtual environments
• Modeling and Simulation
• Sound Design
• Networked Communication and Social Media
The program offers the BA, MA, MFA and PhD in Arts and Technology, as
well as the
BA and MA in Emerging Media and Communication. Qualified applicants may be
offered joint appointments in the partnering Schools.
A generous gift has created two Endowed Chairs as well as up to four Named
Professorships. We seek individuals of exceptional achievement for the following
Endowed Chairs:
• Distinguished University Chair in Animation and Visualization Science
• Distinguished University Chair in Serious Gaming, Modeling and Simulation
We seek highly qualified applicants for appointment at any
professorial rank for the
following positions. Applicants for these positions may be considered
for a named
Professorship:
• 3D Animation
• Sound Design
• Digital Design
• Networked Communication and Social Media
We seek highly qualified applicants for appointment at the level of
Assistant Professor
for the following positions:
• Media Based Visual Arts
• Film Studies
• History/Philosophy of Technology
A technologically sophisticated,155,000 sq. ft. facility, designed
specifically for ATEC
and located in the heart of the campus, is currently under
construction and scheduled
for occupancy in 2013. The facility (pictured above) features
laboratories, studios and
other learning/research environments designed to foster collaboration
and innovation
across disciplines and domains of investigation and artistic endeavor.
Through the Institute for Interactive Arts and Engineering, ATEC
sponsors research
focusing on the design and development of innovative digital content
for application
in education and industry. We seek applicants able to advance the
program’s ambitious
research agenda.
