I will be chairing a Working Group for the Development of Advocacy White Papers
(position papers identifying a roadblock or issue and recommending actions). Carol
Strohecker, Chief Research Officer and Instructor at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts
is co-chair. We are currently assembling a working group and welcome volunteers to help us
develop the project. We will be issuing an open Call For White Papers which will be collected on line
and synthesised for presentation to the US National Science Foundation which has funded the
grant ( Carol Lafayette Texas A and M PI).
The hope is to develop momentum to convince the US National Academy of Science to commission a
“Beyond Productivity 2″ report assessing the needs of the emerging research and education community
that cross links science and engineering to art and design. The “Beyond Productivity” report, chaired by Bill Mitchell

Beyond Productivity in 2003 looked at Information Technology, Innovation, and Creativity and made a number of important recommendations. We hope to motivate a broader report ten years later that looks at Science, Engineering and the Arts and Design, Arts and Humanities and how these cross links contribute not only to innovation and creativity and employment but to sustainable healthy communities.
